Hazardous Materials Co-Op

Butler County enjoys a divergent cross-section of industry that includes polymer, metal chemical, agriculture, and manufacturing. Each of these industries utilizes its own special chemicals as raw materials, which are used in the production process. All facets of industry carry the potential for concern of a hazardous materials incident. Prepared to meet this need is the Butler County Regional Hazardous Materials Response Cooperative (BCHMRC.)

The Regional Hazardous Materials Response Cooperative was established in 1991 and is a joint effort between the Butler County Government, all city, village, and township governments within Butler County, all fire departments within Butler County, Butler County Bomb Squad, Butler County HazSWAT and the Butler County Emergency Management Agency.  Each fire department in the county provides the personnel trained to the operations level to assist the HazMat Teams. The Butler County Emergency Management Agency provides administrative support for the Cooperative's Board of Directors, which come from the entities which makeup the cooperative.

The BCHMRC does not clean up the spill or take possession of any contaminated material. This is the responsibility of the spiller or property owner

The board of the Butler County Hazardous Materials Response Cooperative meets the first Wednesday of each month at 9:30 AM at the Butler County Emergency Operations Center.
